On 2 November 2026 the Home Secretary told Parliament that settlement in the UK (indefinite leave to remain) will be earned rather than granted almost automatically after five years. The default wait rises to 10 years. But care workers who met their visa conditions and earned at least £25,000 a year will be able to settle on their existing five-year path.
